Mary Washington Scholarship Fund
Created by Bruce and Donna Downing in memory of a dear friend and employee of the family, this fund provides financial assistance to college-bound African-American students graduating from Handley High School. The scholarship is administered by Handley High School and selected by the Handley High School scholarship committee.
The 2016 recipient of the Mary Washington Memorial Scholarship was Tishaun Howard who is majoring in Psychology at George Mason University. At Handley High School Tishaun was the president of the Women with a Purpose club, served as basketball manager, was a member of the Forensics and Debate Team, and was a member of the National Honor Society. She also participated in the Booster Club, Interact Club and Multicultural Club, and she served on the Handlian Yearbook staff.
